TRENDnet® Gigabit Switch gets Honorable Mention from CRN Test Center
CRN Test Center (2/28/2000)

TRENDnet's domestic market outlook is very optimistic as we develop high-end technology products in the network industry. A well-known reseller-oriented newsmagazine, Computer Reseller News (CRN), published in-depth analyses and review tests of TEG-S224M Gigabit SNMP Switch in its February 28, 2000 issue.

CRN Test Center   CRN Test Center had tested five major networking companies' Gigabit Ethernet Switches which include Hewlett-Packard ProCurve Routing Switch 9304M, 3Com SuperStack II Switch 3900, Network Peripherals Keystone24g, SMC Networks TigerSwitch 10/100, and TRENDnet TEG-S224M.

In the feature, TRENDnet's channel manager explains the network industry. '"The trends are clear that the amount of data going through corporations has skyrocketed," said Jerry Wright, national channel/sales manager for TRENDnet, Torrance, Calif. "Corporations are experienced with 10/100, but it isn't enough, and they end up with bandwidth bottlenecks."'

The technical specifications of TRENDnet's TEG-S224M received an honorable mention from the editors. "Of all the vendors in this roundup, TRENDnet sent in the most interesting switch. TRENDnet's TEG-S224M is a sleek-looking switch that performed well and included some of the most polished management options that Test Center engineers have ever seen. Unique among all vendors that participated in this roundup, TRENDnet backs its switch with a lifetime warranty."

The management feature of the switch performed the best among the competitors. "Engineers had no trouble connecting to the TEG-S224M via its serial port. The serial console is one of the best in the business. The Web-based management console is a gem. The interface is complete and quite intuitive in its operation."

Gigabit Switches3Com, Hewlett-Packard, and Network Peripheral's Gigabit switches received weaker performance results than TRENDnet. "The management console was unintuitive and online help was not easy to find. The interface provides no menu selections and commands must be typed in manually to bring up sub menus for different functions. HP's serial and Web management consoles are quite thorough and fairly intuitive, though perhaps not as polished as some other brands," denoted Marc Spiwak, Technical Editor for CRN Test Center.

TRENDnet's TEG-S224M Gigabit switch, with two Gigabit modules, is priced at affordable $2,798 whereas 3Com and Hewlett-Packard each offers its switch at high $6,495 and $47,997, respectively. "TRENDnet's focus is on pricing, and it attempts to be as competitive as possible."
