Help - Single Port Forwarding |
Use the Single Port Forwarding screen when you want to open a specific port so users on the Internet can see the servers behind the Gateway (such servers may include FTP or e-mail servers). When users send this type of request to your network via the Internet, the device will forward those requests to the appropriate computer. Any computer whose port is being forwarded should have its DHCP client function disabled and should have a new static IP address assigned to it because its IP address may change when using the DHCP function.
Operation is as follows:
Application | Enter a descriptive name to identify this Special Application which it needs to be forwarded its port. Use the checkbox to Enable or Disable the Special Application as required. |
External Port | This is the port number used by the server or Internet application. Internet users must connect using this port number. Check with the software documentation of the Internet application for more information. |
Internal Port | This is the port number used by the Gateway when forwarding Internet traffic to the PC or server on your LAN. Normally, this is the same as the External Port number. If it is different, the Gateway performs a "Port Translation", so that the port number used by Internet users is different from the port number used by the server or Internet application.
For example, you could configure your web server to accept connections on both port 80 (standard) and port 8080. Then enable Port Forwarding, and set the External Port to 80 and the Internal Port to 8080. Now, any traffic from the Internet to your web server will be using port 8080, even though the Internet users use the standard port, 80. (Users on the local LAN can and should connect to your web server using the standard port 80.) |
Protocol | Select one which this application uses. |
IP Address | Enter the last host id of this PC's IP which PC this application uses. |
Enabled | Click the Enable checkbox to enable port forwarding for the chosen application. Valid this Application or not. When you invalid it, the relevant datum won't be deleted. This will help you use it again conveniently. |
