I have a USB type "A" slot on the back of my DVR set top box at home. Can I connect the TEW-645UB directly to the set top box for Internet access?

No, unfortunately the TEW-645UB requires software drivers to control the device usage. There is no way to load the software divers on the DVR set top box.
